Sub: Does circumcision lead to unhealthy sex?
This is a response to the remarks made in a programme telecasted by Asianet as Kerala Scan dated on 2/10/06. In the said programme, one of the participants claimed that due to the circumcision of Muslims (removing of the foreskin of the penis) they are more leaned to have homosexual relations and others those who didn't circumcise can be fulfilled their sexual drive by shaking their foreskin of the penis. What a blunder and rubbish it was?! I have never heard such a nonsensical statement in my life and it is so sorry to say that a channel like Asianet is telecasting such hypothesis and devil may care talk without a second thought. Does it not show your irresponsibilty towards the reality and prejudiced attitude towards the Muslims as a whole?
As Asianet, it is unfortunate that most of the Medias have been perverted with the major drawbacks of presenting such sensational issues and topics even without logic and reasoning as well as substantial proofs. For example, suppose, if circumcision leads to homosexual that could be examined with specialized people of such areas like Doctors, psychologist, religious scholars etc instead of talking with people who never give due value for morality and ethics. But in fact, most of the Medias are concentrating only on entertaining people and highliting sensational issues but never provide solution for any crisis.
Being a Muslim, we have no objection for discussing unhealthy and anti social elements in the society whether it is among Muslims or any other. But firstly we have to be well aware about what is good and what is bad. If you consider prostitution, drugs, adultery, lesbian, homosexual, lottery, alcohol, abortion, interest, etc are deterrent for the wellbeing of the society, without any doubt, we Muslims will provide every possible support to you to fight against such anti social elements. If you don't consider such practices as anti social elements please don't bother about our beliefs and practices.
Circumcision is not only a practice of Muslims
Firstly, I would like to inform you that circumcision is not only a practice of Muslims but it is also obligatory for Jews and Christian since they believed to be the “followers” of great prophets like Abraham, Jesus (peace be opon them) who had circumcised and hence, Jews and most of the Christians in America and Western countries practicing circumcision either part of their rituals or a scientific abstract thought. The Gospel tells us about the circumcision of Jesus Christ:
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. (Luke 2:21), and regarding Abraham (Genesis 17:11). So it is very clear that it is not only a practice of Muslims but also a practice of millions of people around the world since thousands of years.
A question to Asianet
People may ask one question to Asianet, if circumcision leads to homosexual relations then what is the reason for Lesbian (A female homosexual) and bestiality (Sexual activity between a person and an animal). Let it be your hot discussion in the next Kerala Scan!! For your information I would like to present the following facts regarding the Circumcision (not published by Muslims!)
Studies on Circumcision
More recently, the results of the first randomised controlled trials were published in November 2005 by Auvert, Bertran, Dirk Taljaard, Emmanuel Lagarde, Joëlle Sobngwi-Tambekou, Rémi Sitta, Adrian Puren, reporting that male circumcision provides a degree of protection against acquiring HIV infection, equivalent to what a vaccine of high efficacy would have achieved. Male circumcision may provide an important way of reducing the spread of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, affording a 60% reduction in the rate of new HIV infection (from 2.1 per 100 to 0.85 per 100 in the intervention group).
Research by the World Health Organization published in the US Public Library of Science Medicine journal showed that men who had been circumcised had a significantly lower risk of infection with the AIDS virus, and calculated that if all men were circumcised over the next 10 years, some two million new infections could be avoided.
Infectious and chronic conditions
Non-circumcised boys and men tend to have higher rates of various infections and inflammations of the penis, and of the foreskin, than circumcised men. The foreskin may harbor bacteria and become infected if it is not cleaned properly.
• The foreskin may become inflamed if it is cleaned too often with soap.
• The forcible retraction of the foreskin in boys can lead to infections.
Urinary tract infections
Twelve studies have indicated that neonatal circumcision reduces the occurrence rate of Urinary tract infections in male infants

Statistics from different sources give different pictures of infant circumcision rates in the United States. Deferral of discussion until after birth, combined with the fact that many parents’ decisions about circumcision are preconceived, contribute to the high rate of elective circumcision. A recent study, which used data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (a sample of 5-7 million of the nation's total inpatient stays, and representing a 20% sample taken from 8 states in 1988 and 28 in 2000), stated that circumcisions rose from 48.3% in 1988 to 61.1% in 1997.
In South Korea, circumcision was largely unknown before the establishment of the United States trusteeship in 1945 and the spread of American influence. More than 90% of South Korean high school boys are now circumcised, but the average age of circumcision is 12 years
I can quote you still many data regarding the practice of circumcision around the world other than Muslim countries like Philippines, United Kingdom, Denmark, United States, Canada etc. So please do not judge a religion by analyzing the people and get a conclusion about that. Islam means, achieving peace by submitting one's will to Allah, the Almighty God and it promote peace and universal brotherhood among the people. Islam has very clear cut ideas for achieving this goal (peace and the universal brotherhood) through presenting an acceptable common term for the entire people in the world i.e.' There is no deity Worthy to Worship but Allah, the Almighty God Alone and no Partner and no Associate for Him' If you accept this common term as most of the religion said, then definitely I can say that peace and tranquillity between people will prevail in this world. Otherwise people will run from one god to another for getting peace and remedy for their problems. As we know even many “gods” could not solve their own problems!!!
We Muslims are ready to talk about any subject and there are good scholars available in kerala like M .M Akber, Adv. Mayeenkutty Methor etc and they used to conduct healthy open dialogue between other religious scholars as well as atheist with a question & answer session for the audience. You can contact 'Niche of Truth', Kochi, Kerala at any time to talk about Islam. So I request you, Asianet while presenting some thing pertaining to the beliefs and practices of Muslims related with Islam, the religion of Allah, the Almighty God, please see the authentic source of Islam i.e. the Holy Quran and Sunna, the tradition of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) instead of analyzing Islam from the practices of some name sake Muslims since their tongue may be a Muslim but their heart never be a Muslim.
Quran says:” Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful admonition, and argue with them in ways that are better." [Sooratun-Nahl 16:125]
